Being the best at your craft is, typically, the ultimate goal. Acura has now sat upon that pedestal not once, but twice, because the automaker is the first and only brand to earn both a 5-star overall vehicle score from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS - across its entire model line.
This is actually the second time Acura has accomplished this feat, the first taking place in 2009.
Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager, Acura division, said that, "At Acura, safety has been a part of our engineering culture and DNA since the inception of the brand nearly 30 years ago, something affirmed by these industry-leading safety ratings." Ikeda added, "The national advertising campaign illustrates the passion we have for not only achieving safety leadership but also the motivation behind our safety efforts."
The campaign Ikeda refers to is a new high-impact and emotional national advertising campaign highlighting the brands dedication to safety performance. Acura was actually the first brand to bring advanced driver-assistive technology to the luxury market, with such features as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and the Collision Mitigation Braking System - which were found on the 2006 Acura RL.
Chuck Thomas, chief engineer automotive safety, Honda R&D Americas, Inc, said, "Building upon the robust ACE body structure, we have achieved a new level of occupant protection and with AcuraWatch we help the driver mitigate, and at times avoid, collisions." Thomas added, "Looking ahead, our research in advanced automated driving technology has the potential to help realize our dream of a collision-free mobile society, perhaps within the next few decades."
